Tim, Thanks for that info. I've never seen a DI 9mm so the problems involved are a mystery to me.

Brought G4 9 with yesterday and two buckets of ammo. Loads were too light to function and I didn't have my light set up with to test. I wanted 5gr of Universal over 115 gr JHP, but when Bro finally measured a charge we were only 4.2 gr. That puts us down around 20ksi and just not enough GO for the G4 set up...... and he only loaded 1000.......

Put the light set up in G4 and still no go with the light loads. They will eject but won't pick up another round. Looks like I've got stock for the blow back... unless.....

Got G5 on the bench and have two versions drawn up. Going with V1 to start as its easier. One more bushing to make and I'll do a test.

Put G5 version 1 together today and tested. Manual operation is just like I wanted and actually could stand on its own. Gas operation has some work to get done. Going to ponder on this for a bit and see which direction I want to go and how much effort. The system is much more complex than I would like, but, if it works....

Picked up a meg pack of UMC 115gr 9mm rounds and G4 piston loves em! I'll pull a couple bullets and get a charge wgt to see what they are. Consensus is the UMC is loaded a bit lower than Win White Box. Next test is to put the slide fire on and see if G4 will keep up.
G5 didn't fare any better with the UMC....

Tim, Really glad to see you're making some major advances with the 9mm piston setup. The big box of UMC 9mm is what I use because it's available in the stores. I actually have not seen any Winchester white box 9mm ammo in awhile -- might be others are just grabbing it up before I get there. After you get finished with the UMC and Winchester white box stuff are you going to try some of the Russian 9mm ammo?

Pulled a bullet and got 5.6gr of a mixture of ball and small disc type powder at full case capacity. Quick Load says AA#2 is a bit too hot and #5 way too light. No, I don't plan on buying any more ammo, it works on UMC so that's good enough for me. Going to make another G4 and see if I can duplicate the results. Stepped up G5 a notch and will get the bolt to unlock but that's about it. Going to have to set it down for a bit and get caught up on some other things.

Tok one of our first cuzi adapters (colt / cproducts / uzi mags) and added a uzi slot mag catch to test operation. Put a stock uzi mag (no AR slot) in the G4 piston set up and rocked off 10 rounds. The follower is angled quite a bit for the blow back operation and the bolt hits the next round in the mag quite hard coming back during extraction. Took another mag and leveled out the follower but did not mess with the feed lips and operation is a bit smoother. The UMC ammo locks the bolt back so we definitely have more GO with this stuff. Going to freshen up my dwgs a bit and put another one in the mill to see if we can duplicate things. I need to find a bit more room and I'll be a happy camper...

Just did a mod that allowed a blow back adapter w/ejector removed and a stock CProduct mag to run in the gas gun......

G4r2 is done and we're in the process of testing. We aren't where we need to be, but are "that" close. Making some small changes as we go to see what is helping and what isn't so we maximize what does and minimize what doesn't. I like the package and as soon as we get the bolt to lock back we are pushing the GO button. One thing I want to try and stay away from is having to install the pin in the barrel extension, it just adds a lot of steps to the process. I've got some room to play with r2 so will see how the rest of the day goes. One thing we did do as I mentioned before is adapter the PSA blow back adapter to use on this gas set up and the bolt hold open is really nice. Something I wish the Uzi mags could do.....

Houston, we have lift off! No pin, no dent, no short stroke !!!!!! Big news is that I found my .050" that we had to get, which when you see it, will explain why. I've got one more cosmetic change to make and some standardization. Going to play with the hand guards Monday and do some comparison testing between G4r2 and G4r3 just to verify what we did and the outcome. All in all, a good day at the shop
