Got two more versions of the gas 9 running so time to make a couple more barrels and do some side by side comparisons. Have the handguard issue resolved and want to see how short I can go with a pistol barrel as well as some heavy sub sonic loads. It worked with the 9x23Win & 9mm Largo so we'll see what happens.

That is really cool that you've gotten that far with the piston setup. Will your setup run with stuff like they sell at Walmart -- like Winchester white box stuff or PMC 9mm?

Yes, that is the whole point of going this way. My DI set up ran at a very narrow range. The 9x23 set up goes from 9x23 Win to 9mm Largo. The Tok set up runs surplus, hot reloads, and subs. I'm running moderate cast loads in the 9mm and going to drop that down to sub sonic and see where we go. Just got a case of Uzi mags so want to develop an adapter that takes less modifications. Also have another project on the bench that is looking pretty interesting.......

Finally got some time to work on these systems. See the new 45 thread

What a mistake Got a Slide Fire Stock for the 9mm ;D The stock is amaging and does exactly what it is advertised as.... Holy cow... Just what I need - more reloading... Also need to do some tweaking on the 9, sometimes cycles faster than the mags can feed.

Took the opportunity last trip home to play with the 9 seeing as the snow was finally gone and I wouldn't have to worry about loosing brass! Worked on tuning the system with the Slide Fire stock. If you have not tried one of these, they definitely get your attention. The method is a bit unconventional to you FA users but you do get used to it. At first the Slide Fire would allow the 9 to cycle faster than action could keep up and we were getting 3 - 5 shot bursts. We tuned things a bit to where we can control the strings but still have not gotten full mag dumps. This is all with our 124gr cast RN over 4.5gr of Unique practice load. Next (and final ) trip home we can do some comparisons with the different gas blocks and buffer / spring set ups to get to the FA stage.

Fit the hand guard to the gas 9 yesterday and ran through a few rounds. Still have things mounted on the slide fire and it takes some getting used to. Played with ammo but still couldn't get full mag dumps with it. I know trigger finger placement really makes a difference and with my screwed up arm I really have to work at it. Bottom line is: hand guards fit, gas system worked 100%, and its time to make it look pretty. Now to get the new adapter done.....

Got BAP2 here at the shop and will work on it while I'm here so we can put it in with the mix back at the range. Going to try and get BAP4 made while I'm here.

Wow, so long since this last update...... Heading back to the shop for a couple of days and won't have time to get the BAP4 done. Everything were doing with the new 45 applies to the 9 so we'll transfer this data here and see if we can get some of these put together, just to0 far behind to even get close....

Put the 9 back together this morning with version 2 gas system. last time out I got some movement by the block so I dimpled the barrel for the set screws to keep the block in place. I don't remember what the loads were but some generic 124gr FMJ that chrono'd at 1150 fps out of the 16" barrel. The unit cycled 100% with no operation issues using a "stock" carbine buffer and spring. I say "stock" because its a UTG brand with lighter weights in the buffer and I don't know what material the springs are made of but they not as robust as some. I did however have a couple nose up jams which slowed down the rapid firing! I was using a CProducts mag with our CUZI adapter. After some review, I had the set up a bit low in the magwell so I adjusted things up a bit and presto, mag dumps until I ran out of ammo...... The 9 is a pure blast to shoot and my 50 yard metal plates were no match for the set up, even without sights or scope! Loaded up some more 124 gr loads over 4 and 5 gr of Universal and some 124 gr cast over 3 gr for some light sub sonic plinking.

Sounds good Tim, are you still sorting out the problems or are you calling it done and are ready to start selling them.
Is this with a stock carrier with new gas key or a brand name piston carrier

Looking back through my notes, 5.6 gr of Unique was my stock load. The 5gr Universal was hit and miss for cycling so we've lost something since our last go round. I should have been able to dial up the system to compensate for lower power so I need to find out what's going on here. I use stock piston carriers. I tried the bolt on strike face but they all fail eventually. Still want to work on my packaging a bit so if the last two weeks are any indication I'll be able to sort things out and get the final package together.

What gas port distance would the system need to be able to fit,
I take it that the piston vents any crap that gets in.

Port is less than pistol and I've got vented and non vented versions
