Hello, A variety of companies have imported the M57 and each of the three I know of did the safety differently.
1. PWS Arms? drills a hold towards the rear of the frame above the grip plus puts a notch in the slide. Haven't personally seen one so I don't know how well they operate.
2. CAI went with a blade style safety. I have one of these for a personal gun. Swapped the trigger for an original trigger so now I have the pistol without any alterations, works great
3. GRC makes the third type I have seen. They installed the external safety under the grip. So they milled a part of the grip for the lever to stick out of. These have been horrible. Whatever they did sticks into the magazine well. Literally takes a screwdriver to pry the magazine out. The opposite of drop free. What I am wondering, is if the safety can be removed and if removed, will it clear the magazine obstruction?
I am a dealer and have some of these for sale. One came in that didn't hamper the magazine, but the rest all are "stuck". Does anyone have one of the GRD models? The GRC web site is down and their email doesn't work so I don't know if they went out of business or ? The distributor doesn't know what to do but will take back the pistols. Then what are they going to do with them?
Seems the solution is to remove the safety. Even though the safety was needed for import, once it has been imported, does it need to be left installed?
Thanks
