Working on a side project while I'm home and will load up pics this afternoon. Good news is "Big Blue" is alive and the program's about 1/4 complete. Bad news is that its all done by hand a word at a time.... I was going to carve up one of my PRS stocks and put a modified butt pad on it but the stock is still shorter than I would like.I thought it would start at A2 length and get longer. It actually is much shorter than an A2 and almost gets there with the pad adjuster all the way out. We've sketched up a new adjustable butt pad for the A2 stock and it will absorb a little recoil to boot. Lets light this candle boys!

Here's step one, the idea on paper. Then you figure out what tools it takes.... Then you tell the machine what to do.... then you check, and check, and check, and double check....

and the saga continues. Big Blue did a great job today! even tapped some holes Don't laugh at my V2 work holding, just trying to prove it works.... The quick stuff is done and the real work begins.... I got wrapped up in my self after losing the program and had to make a change to work holding. I'll make a better set up for V2 but here you can see the step where the pad fits an A2 stock. Fresh chips and WD40! Big Blue Rocks! Damitman, the SOB fits, first one off the block. and mocked up with springs. I seated the springs deeper than in the machine photos because I wanted them to collapse fully when the pads came together. The springs were donated from the A2 stock kit going on the 50. I'm playing with the spring rate calcs and will make some adjustments as I move forward, but this is a good starting point. The set up adds 3" to an A2 stock and has just over an inch of travel. That can be adjusted as wished. I used 1" material because I had it laying around and it need something to do, plus I wanted the springs room to collapse fully without binding. Once I get the springs and rods set up to where everything is smooth, I'll make adjustments as needed. I made a drawing for another one that is inline with the buffer tube as opposed to the stock butt pad angle. We'll see what happens.

Made up another jig to spot face the buffer tube hole I thought I was done but I kept tweaking things. The rubber pad I was going to put on the end didn't fit the contour and I really didn't want to chop it all up so cut a radius on the end and added some ribs to it. I put together the lower with the stock A2 set up on it, about 11.5" long. Tried 3 times to rotate that picture... I thought the plain machined finish looked pretty cool, but I went this far I might as well throw it in the anodizer..... Then for the final fit Just under 14" after cutting the end pad down a bit. Plan is to assemble everything tomorrow and maybe shake up the neighborhood on Memorial day. Can't really think of a better way to show my appreciation

Got the big 50 on the bench and hope to fire off a few rounds in the next few days. Definitely need to work on the line of action on the recoil pad and have some material coming to put between the plates. Using QL recoil calculator the 50 Beowulf at 8 lbs and the BMG at 30 lbs both put out about 4x the recoil energy than a 5.56

Finally had a chance to fire off the 50 Bore sighted it with the 16x Super Sniper scope to get it close then dialed in from there. I loaded up 3 loads with the surplus pulled 650ish gr FMJ bullets: 60gr of 4831 est at 1000 fps but was supersonic so probably 1100-1200 range; 120gr of 4831 est at 1750 fps; and 200gr of H50B at 2450 fps. Went through about 30 rounds and whether it was the new recoil pad or just the fun of shooting the 50, it was smooth as silk. I'm going to make a few adjustments on the next pad, but it definitely helped my shoulder. The length of pull while shooting was good, but racking in another round, I was almost out of arm! May have to shorten it up a bit....
