Here are the sub loads we loaded up: Everything was under 1000 fps so we'll form up some more brass and see what we can do. Its also time to be getting our new reamers in!

Shot out an email to see where the 30 Slugr reamers are, still could be a month away......

Hello Tim Merry Christmas
Been having time off with the holidays and have been looking at my AR15 blow back 30 luger that I made years ago and have been thinking about converting the barrel to DI
The thought of making up 147g subs has got me thinking
I can't see any reason why it should not work but I'm thinking a gas system length the same as the tok setup might be a bit to long
Any thoughts

Merry Christmas Kiwi, I would guess the gas systems would be the same as I'm loading up past Tok pressures with the 9x23SC brass. I'm running mine in blow back right now until I run out of buffer.

I'm looking at the recoil impulse as well
The DI's just run a lot smoother
The B/B have a sharp recoil action that moves the rifle around a lot
I believe the tok's are set up at 2" from the flange

Ok, just so I'm on the right page here.......... .30 Slugger = .30 super Luger And your running .38 supercomp (9x23) brass thru a .30 luger sizing die and calling it a day. Correct? (Basically a .30 luger with a longer neck, correct?) I was having a hard time following the posts and wasn't sure if some of them were pertaining to .30 luger loaded really hot.
When you did the long "Moscow Match" loads, at 1.6" lg, did you run them out of a stock .223/5.56 magazine? If you did, how well did it feed?
This sounds pretty interesting if it would run well and still fit in a glock magazine.

Tim, I've got some questions also. Can 30 Luger factory ammo be fired in the 30 slugger chamber? Reason I ask is my wife and I go to an indoor shooting range and they only allow factory ammo. My 2nd question is the longer Slugger round in the picture is something like 1.6" overall length which is like the length of the 30 carbine cartridge -- can the long 30 sluggers be fed from a carbine magazine? You make the 30 carbine magwell adapter for the AR and I wondered if you had tried the Sluggers in it. I do shoot at an outdoor range that does allow hand loads and if the carbine magazine setup works it would allow me to play with hand loads for the 30 Slugger.

Happy New Year All! I've jumped around and little bit ahead of myself in order to start some load data and work on different names...... Yes: 30 Slugger / Uzi / UZ / Slugr are all the same. 30 Super Luger is 9x23 SC brass ( Starline Super Comp brass has thicker base with modified extractor and modified walls for 147gr 9mm bullets ) that is cut down .050" and sized in 30 Luger dies. Think of the 45 Super when they cut down 45 Mag brass. This gives you 45,000 psi brass with factory parts to start shooting. I've got new reamers coming for the 30 Slugger / Slugr : It uses the stock 9x23 SC brass and blows the shoulder out and fwd enough so you can not fit it in a 30 Luger chamber. No: The 30 Slugr (not here yet) will not (or shouldn't) fit in a 30 Luger chamber. Yes: The Moscow Match work in M1 Carbine Mags..... ..... to a point. Remember, we are doing this all blow back and our Carbine adapter has no ejector. OK, so build a gas gun. If I were to do a gas gun I would probably go the 22B route and just use 5.56 brass and re-invent the Super Cooper. And if I were using 5.56 brass I probably wouldn't worry about Uzi mags, and if I wasn't worried about Uzi mags, I wouldn't cut the case down that far, and presto, the 300 BlaSperBall If there's anything I have learned on this AR stuff......... ...... at some point in time you have to stop and build the d**n thing. 22 UZ / 30 Slugr objective: A 9mm blowback alternative ..... and of course will fit it in the gas gun

I have the 30 luger DI up and running a few days ago and is excellent with a lot less recoil and very smooth I've started playing around with 147g subs and 296 powder I modded a 233 magazine to feed them with a block in the front Cycles 10 rounds smooth as silk, I left a bit of room for longer projectiles Has anybody played around with 296 powder and these rounds

Looks good Kiwi! 296 is a great magnum powder with a burning rate around 4227 and meters excellent. What barrel length? Do any chrono testing?

9" barrel with suppressor
Hope to get out this weekend and chrono some loads
I know what the lower level is that will not cycle the action
Not sure what the fps will be until I try them
I need to invest in Quick load to get some starting points

Hello Tim
I have access to Quickload and have been playing around learning how to operate it
I presume I should try and select a powder that offers the best burn rate close to 100 % as possible for the barrel length
The index unfortunately has not got the all projectiles or some of the powders that I use
For 30 luger 296 powder is coming up with 75% burn rate with my length of barrel and a 147g projectile at 1000 fps

Spent the day at the range with the chrony and the reloading gear, powders, primers, projectiles
I'm getting from 50 to 100 FPS difference in actual FPS and those quick load give, with actual FPS being lower across all the powders and loads tested
I have done the water fill on the case imput and the actual case and bullet sizes into quick load, is there anything else that can be tweaked to try and get the numbers to match better or is that as good as it gets
It is so much better as a DI than a blowback, very smooth and a lot less recoil
Next trip out I will be playing with some more powders and spring and buffer weights

Great info Kiwi, thanks! Do you know how to access the specific bullet brands in QL? On the top left side of the screen you have Selected Bullet ................ File:\qloadfw File:\qloadfw is the default "universal" bullet selection. With your mouse double click on the File:\qloadfw and you should get a drop down menue. Then take your mouse and select the bullet manufacturer you want to you and you get only those bullets.
