Tim, If you did have a chance to do a 30 Luger barrel it would be nice to see what it could do with your short DI gas system. I'm into smaller case capacity for better powder economy and still be able to pop off a few of the heavier bullets at times.
I would imagine the BB version would be more desirable but everybody seems to want to go to some type of locked breach design -- that's why I was thinking your short gas system.

Started forming brass and doing OAL tests. Here's what we have so far..... We have the short 9mm 115gr HP on the left, stock 9x23 SC case, 30 UZ with .150 neck, 30 UZ with .200" neck, 90gr Hornady XTP, 85gr Sierra JRN, 110gr Sierra HP at Tok length, & M1 Carbine length. I ran a .150" neck on the 22 UZ but am changing it to a .200 neck and forming the 30 UZ works out about the same. When we blow the shoulder out and increase the angle that will prevent it from chambering in a 30 Luger. Heading back home next week so we'll see if I can get some shop time.....

Back at shop, but have some issues going on that is taking precedent.
Mocked up cases and ordered 30 UZ reamers from another mfg. 8 - 12 week lead time.....

Darn, those are nice looking rounds. I like the 7.62X25 Tok loaded hot with some nice bullets but your 30 Uzi is really nice and I'll bet will still go fast out of your short gas system setup. with the rounds set at M1 carbine length the Carbine magazines might work just fine with them.

I was just wondering if you had thought about doing the 30 Uzi down to 6mm or opening the 22 uzi up to 6mm. Might make a nice intermediate choice. A lot of trouble but something to think about. I think your brother likes 6mm. This was just a thought about making something different.

I think (as we both already know) that bullet selection will not be practical, way too long to have any worth. Have the same problem with the 256 Win Mag Rimless

I think (as we both already know) that bullet selection will not be practical, way too long to have any worth. Have the same problem with the 256 Win Mag Rimless I don't know what I was thinking -- I forgot that this round was to fit the 9mm magazine. I guess I got the Tokarev round on my brain. I have different magazines when I use for different bullets for the Tokarev but that doesn't help at all when the limiting factor is the 9mm magazine.

You're just trying to keep me busy....... I guess I need to stop doing that -- you have several really good projects in the works.

30 Luger pistol barrel done, assembled, and ready for testing. Going with 2400 powder for starting out using 8 gr of powder and the 85gr JRN bullets. Don't have chrono up here but QL predicts almost 1700 fps from the 8" barrel at the 30 Luger pressures of 35,000 psi maxed out with 10.2 gr of 2400 powder. When we re-chamber to the 30 UZ and the 45,000 psi rating, that gets bumped up to just over 1800 fps (if the blow back will handle it). As a comparison, the Tokarev clocks out at 1830 fps with the same set up. So, lets get some testing done.....

9.0 gr bounces cases off the deflector so we've got some bolt speed. I have my std 9mm set up for buffer and spring installed that we are testing the 22 UZ with. Comparing fired brass, the shoulders are not blown forward yet so we'll creep up on that 10.2 gr max.....
