I fixed the problem I had loading the small Sierra bullets into my Tok brass so I decided I'd try a different bullet. The Hornady 30 caliber Mauser is 86 grains and has a large soft lead nose -- and this gave me problems. The Sierra bullet on the left is easy to load now but the Hornady bullet on the right causes me problems due to the large size of the soft lead nose. If the Hordady bullet is not dead on straight when being seated the edge of the bullet seater catches the lead and will drive it in at a slight angle. Note where the cannelure is on the Hornady bullet -- that is as far as I seat these bullets and I then put in a slight crimp. I don't like the Hornady bullets but the Sierra bullets are working just fine for me now.

if you want to use those bullets you May have to resort to custom fitting a Seater stem for them. Some spray lube and a tube of devcon ( steel putty) or some other epoxy type stuff and some careful alignment and you can maybe keep the seater from cutting into the bullet so bad. mix up some of the putty smash a bit into the seating plug and then lightly lube a bullet and press it into the putty.... Viola custom fit seating stem!

Viola custom fit seating stem! I'll be honest -- I got the Hornady bullets as a test and I've decided I don't like them. I'll stick with with the Sierra bullets -- they work great. All that stuff necessary to load just the Hornady 86 grain bullet is not worth it -- this ain't no target rifle. ---------------------------- BY THE WAY --------------------------- Remember you asked about what velocities I was getting -- I found the paperwork! I have a bunch of loads -- but remember this is for my gas gun (DI) with the gas port in the pistol length position. These are Maximum loads -- My AR has a 16" barrel with a 1:10 twist. As usual, reduce the max load by 10% for the specific device you are using the ammo in. The first load is for Max Tokarev pistol pressure (34,809psi)The second load is for Max AR-15 application pressure (51,000psi)Bullet weight: 85-90 grains COL: 1.35" powder: Accurate #9 1. Max load (pistol) 10.5 grains (1900-2000fps) 2. max load (AR-15) 12.0 grains (2100-2200fps) 110 grain Hornady round nose. COL 1.35" powder: Accurate #9. 1. Max load (pistol) 8.3 grains (1500-1600fps) 2. Max load (AR-15) 9.5 grains (1700-1800fps) 125 grain Nosler 125 grain spitzer bullet. COL 1.70" powder: Accurate #9. 1. Max load (pistol) 8.3 grains (1450-1550fps) 2. max load (AR-15) 9.5 grains (1600-1700fps) 150 grain Sierra Match King. COL 1.70" Powder: Accurate #9. 1. Max load (pistol) 7.7 grains (1450-1550fps) 2. max load (AR-15) 9.0 grains (1500-1600fps) If you have the really short gas system like HMC710 puts on his Tok carbines I would use the loads designed for pistols.

well yeah... but look at that SOFT point. I can imagine some pretty spectacular terminal effect with them little pills Zipping along at magnum revolver ( or maybe much higher) velocity.

At 2200fps the 85gr bullet produces 914 foot/pounds of energy. I'll bet that hurts! It's up near the energy of the factory 44 magnum -- only problem is the smaller hole.

heh, pretty sure with that much exposed lead? a Small hole is not what will result. kinda makes a close range varmint grenade out of it.
