I was just wondering if you've been working on the 9mm DI upper. I remember the test video you did on one but I've seen nothing new -- has it kinda died?

Not dead, just no extra time. Have barrels for it and the Tok Piston on the bench to be profiled but just can't get to them. Tried out some help, but it didn't work out.... Delivering our latest machine today, so that should free up some time and space.

I was just wondering if the 9mm DI was a dead issue? I haven't seen any requests for a 9mm DI on any other sites in a while. For a time it was a big thing and now nothing. The reason I'm asking is and it may be just my imagination, but it looks like the 7.62 Tok milsurp ammo is getting a little harder to find and if found, it's a bit higher in price. I was thinking that maybe now would be a good time to bring out a 9mm DI since the 9mm ammo is easy to find and the price of something like Winchester white box 9mm isn't that bad. I haven't really checked to see if there is any milsurp 9mm ammo available.
Is there a problem with getting the DI system to work consistently with something like Winchester white box ammo or is it just there is no market for it?

It's a time vs demand issue. I agree with your analysis completely. My reloader doesn't care what's under the die set, major cost factor is bullet wgt. Our 9 project runs but have not run 5k rounds through it yet to see what is going to pop up. Keep getting side tracked with work......

Did the DI 9 use the same gas system as the Tok? Slightly shorter?

During the DI project I had the 9 running but not consistent. It always seemed like it was fighting itself to get out of the chamber. I had the 9x23 out this weekend (haven't loaded pics yet) but run into the same fighting issue. The 9mm is such a quick low volume charge, you have to take advantage of it right away, like the 45. If you watch video's of these things running there seems to be as much smoke out the chamber as there is the muzzle. Running surplus Tok ammo with the wrong wind and you get choked to death. Thats when I started working on the BAP gas system to eliminate all of that. Have three of them running, just been on the road for the last couple of years and really cut into development time. Plus I don't like people nit picking my stuff so I like to have it right before I let it out. Now that we've pulled the trigger on the move I hope to change that. But, thats what I said last time....I do have the 9 and 45 set up on the bench for this weekend tho!

Tim, At one point in time didn't you have a special piston setup for the 9mm or am I dreaming?

Yes. the BAP system. Trying to get one set up to run everything from Tok to 45acp to 9mm. Finally broke a part on the 9mm, but not related to the BAP. Broke BAP2 about 6 months ago, have BAP1 on the 9x23 running 9mm Largo, and some 9x23 super heavy stuff sub sonic. Have BAP3 on the 45 and having ejection issues so been tweaking on the extractor and bolt a bit to help out because its dropping cases on the way out. So still refining and working on a new one too, on paper anyway. Way cool. On the BAPs, working out the gas adjustment system and design for manufacturing so that it actually looks like something and works!

I'm glad I'm not starting to imagine things. I hope you work out all the issues. I would really love to see a good piston system being made for the pistol rounds. I do remember see a video of you firing the 9mm setup and it looked really good but at the time the height of the block looked like it might cause a problem with selecting handguards -- will this be an easy problem to fix or a difficult one or was I dreaming again?

BAP2 addressed the hand guard issue better than BAP1, but B1 worked with stock M4. Issue with B2 was that it was a custom hand guard. Have B4 &5 on dwg board but being away from shop.... Still reviewing a delayed blow back and a new idea I'm working on I haven't put a name on yet... so like normal, have more ideas than time or money to work on.... The BAPs are simple, just need a little tweaking.

Delayed blowback would be a hoot! That type of design would be good for several of the pistol rounds.

You mean like the 22 Reeds Express? Yes! The 22RE is a great shooter in a varity of bullet weights.
