I hope you have better luck with Universal Clays than I did with Unique. Alliant Unique is a real case hog and would also clog up in the loading funnel. I've been running my rounds in a blowback setup -- what are you running your rounds in?

Direct impingment
I tried a 55gr bullet with Bluedot 9.5 grains and there was no room for the bullet in the case. Also at 25yds the bullet key holed. also would not cycle the action with 7/64 gas port. That is why I ordered 50gr & 40gr pills. Hopefully deeper seating will allow rifling to stabilize.

With the blowback I think I have an advantage since these bullets are so light and the plastic sabot makes them really slide down the barrel. I Tried my longer gas system Di tok setup -- maybe I should try my 35gr V-max bullets in the short DI setup. It worked really good in the blowback and it doesn't have a flash hider -- I'm just a little leary about the sabot starting to open up in the flash hide and maybe cause a problem. I guess I could go ahead and try it and see if I get some plastic stuck in there.

I went and increased the powder charge to 11.0gr of AA#9 and the rounds function in the blowback just like the Tok ammo in my carbine. I'm using standard carbine buffer spring and the heavy 9mm buffer and the carbine chucks the spent brass a good distance. I discovered a problem using the stubby 35gr Hornady V-max bullets in the sabots. It seems the ram that seats the bullet into the sabot had a hole for the bullet nose that was too big and was not seating these stubby bullets all the way into the sabot. I corrected by cutting off the end and drilling a smaller hole. You can see in the picture below the difference between the original loaded sabots, on the right, how far out the bullets stick and the corrected loaded sabots just to the left of them. This gave me even more room in the case although I don't think I'll be going any higher in the AA#9 powder charge than I am now. All the cartridges are set to an over-all length of 1.36" and run just fine in the PPS mags.

I tested the rounds in my DI carbine with the barrel I got from HMC710 and it works great although I removed the flash hider. I've read in some of the info, on sabots like these, that they can start to open in the hider and cause a buildup of plastic that can cause problems.

That is just too cool guys! Can you chrono some of those 22? Is the 11gr LilGun charge compressed?

I'm not sure if you're talking about my loads or not -- I'm using 11.0 grains of AA #9 and there is still some room when I'm using the Hornady 35 grain V-max. I need to get a chrony some how because I need to see what velocity I'm getting out of this sabot stuff plus that 256 Winchester Magnum project.

This is a picture of the longer cartridge using the 50gr V-max in an M1 Carbne magazine. The cartridge over-all length is 1.60" and there is still room in the magazine. I need to make up some loads using 55gr bullets. I've got a feeling that when HMC710 gets the M1 carbine magazine adapter completed it will work great for these long sabots.

A friend of mine is working on the sabots for a Ruger revolver that is chambered in 30 Carbine. He is doing so for plinking only since the revolver has a twist rate of 1:20 and can't stabilize any .224" bullets longer than something like 0.60". He has fired light loads with 33 grain bullets and is getting 2250fps out of a 7.5" barrel. I believe the M1 carbine barrel has the same twist rate as the Ruger revolver. Building an AR for the M1 carbine cartridge with something like a 1:10 twist or 1:8 for those wanting to get into subsonics should work well for some heavier .224" bullets. The sabots work at some pretty good velocities but are definitely not going to turn a regular rifle into a match rifle. The accuracy is going to be somewhat less than the standard ammo used in the firearm. It all depends on how well you put the sabot cartridges together.

If you use heavier bullets go with NON-Boattail as the sabot will not hold the bullet if a boattail.
