I've got an upper for the 22 Reed Express and thought maybe I should see what happens if I neck the 9mm Winchester Magnum down to 22 caliber. The round on the left is the 22 Reed Express and next to it is the necked down 9mm magnum brass. The necked down 9mm mag has a good neck length and it holds 18.4 grains of water -- unfired. I don't know how this compares to a necked down 30 M1 carbine case but the modified 9mm magnum loads nice in a M1 carbine magazine. I just though it might make a nice little cartridge if it isn't just copying some other cartridge.

Now that is sweet! We've got the M1 carbine mags on the drawing board for an adapter for the 30 Carbine and 9mm Mag. This would be really fun to do to. A quick alteration of the .224 Boz, in quick load to 18.5 gr of water shows 2600 + fps from a 16" brl. I don't know how that compares to the Reeds Express. As I side note, ran a 357 mag case through my Tok die...... Good job 22B!

The 22 Reed express was good for 2600fps out of a 10" barrel. I think this modified 9mm magnum brass should be something like the 22 Super Jet which was made from 357 magnum brass. Out of a 16" barrel with 45 grain bullet over 16.5 grains of IMR4227 the original 22 Super Jet was good for something around 2900 to 3000fps.

Those are some impressive numbers. I had to go up to the .221 Fireball with a 1.397" case length in Quick Load to get those numbers from a 10". QL did not have the Super Jet or the Reeds Express, just the .224 Boz, which I thought was the same as the Reeds Express. Still be fun to find out. Checking out my little 10 (?) round M1 Carbine mag, its not long enough to stick out the bottom of the AR magwell. Feed lips definately need to be opened up for bolt clearance. Mag catch is going to be interesting but doable and no provision for a BHO. I'll round up a longer mag and see if we can get a prototype adapter built.

Are you actually working on an M1 carbine magazine magblock?

Yes we are working on the M1 Carbine mag block as well as the Glock and Sten mags. We made an adjustment on the Colt/Uzi gas and blow back adapters and are finalizing those. Once those are done we will move on to another one. I was going to do the Glock, but the M1C is going to be much easier and your .22 Super Mag just might have pushed me over the edge.

Re-read this post along with the 30 Wisp / Tok Mag post. Both based on the 9mm Win Mag case. Will run a few through the 22 RE dies and check necks to see if I can reload some. I've got a couple of blanks here so hopefully I can crank one out in my spare time.
