I keep looking for a reason to build a .256 Win Mag (rimless) based Tok upper ;D !!YES!!! what kind of a reason do you need ? I actually went as far as to make some 256 rimless brass ( cut down .223) it is a real hoot of a round I have often thought of re barreling a win '94 in .357 to that. i have made some interesting "keith" style half jacketed semi wadcutters in .256 what weight do you want ?

Correct indeed, I have the reason, just need some dies, reamer, and some blanks.... and maybe some time...

hmmmm, Dies eh ? I might could loan you my set, I don't seem to use them often. What barrel length you thinking on ? my contender is a 10" I don't have much Chrony info but I will dig up what I have. I was a little disappointed as the twist was to slow for heavier (longer) bullets. it only really seemed to like the 75 and 85 grain flat point 25-20 style pills. I have some very nice hornady spire points and some old Nosler ballistic tips that I would love to shoot in something. IF I get the front end replaced on the truck today and all the snow tires swapped over, I will try to post some of my old Data and some pictures of the various bullets I have tried and some of the ones I make.
I also might be able to make up some very long sleek 30 cal projectiles if anyone is interested. I have a set of Corbin ULD dies for the .308 dia. It makes a very sleek jacketed bullet a bit over 200 grains, and I can adjust that some. Still toying with adding to my capabilities to do some heavy subsonic type stuff in 30 cal.

Quick question concerning the .256 maggie version. Were you thinking on full length (1.28" if memory serves) based on either 9mm mag brass or cut down .223 or something more along the lines of a .256 win spcl with the shorter Tok brass ? ( a shade under an inch again from memory)

Moved the 256 posts from the Other Hobbies over here to see what kind of interest we can generate.
9mm Mag brass should be able to be formed easily in a set of 256 Win Mag dies. I've already cut some 223 brass down in anticipation on finding dies and a reamer. I would also think a 6.5 TCU reamer could be re-ground with a 30 deg shoulder and maybe shorten the dies a bit.
Again, kind of re-inventing the wheel here as the 25x40 has been posted on arfcom.

Very very little in field of firearms (ok cartridge design) is NOT re-inventing the wheel, it is all a matter of using what is available at the time. Does not make it any less interesting
OK here is a question to you Wildcatters out there. what is the easiest way to neck ream/outside turn or otherwise make usable Cut down brass ? I have cut 223 back for the Tok and .256 win mag rimless and a .357 straightwall rimless, and I have cut .308 (7.62 NATO) down to make .45 ACP high pressure cases from, and ALWAYS the biggest pain in the body part is neck thinning ( i have inside reamed outside turned and tried various jigs/fixtures its always a pain) what do you guys do ?
I posted this here because I have a BUNCH of .223 brass and a quick easy way to shorten it and I realy realy want a .256 win mag rimless using this brass, it will require a bunch of neck thinning though.
thanks Dan

Drill press, v-block, and a reamer.

I have had very mixed results with reaming, I guess becaue i am too cheap and impatient to get a correct reamer cut. most inside reamers are designed to be used on fire formed brass ( or so it seems) because if you use them on freshly neck sized brass they always cut for a slip fit on the bullet. do you get custom reamers made ? And by whom ?

I'll make my own if I have to. I use PTG and Manson for std chamber reamers. MSC/J&L for straight reamers.
Putting together some dwgs for the 256 project. Should be able to do it with std parts if the numbers add up.....

if you end up making a straight reamer for inside neck reaming freshly sized cut down .223 brass, make up two as I need to buy 1!

Developed some dwgs and QL data on the 256 Project. Will start collecting materials in my spare time.

Turned the P256 barrel yesterday and should be able to chamber today. Cases have been mocked up and look good. Did some tweaking on QL and we should have no problem with using a standard gas system, BCG, and Buffer/Spring. We'll see how the mag feeds go...... Hopefully will have some chrono testing in a few days.
