What more can I say, it works! I took a 14.5" 223 barrel and set it back, chambered it to .221 Fireball. Using a metal stock mag I can rattle off a string of rounds suppressed. Can't say how many it can go without jamming. I'm cheap, I use ten round mags, I don't load them full either. I don't remember what I drilled the gasport to, but it works suppressed. Cycles 55 grain fmj, 45 grain soft points but not 32 grain hp all with the same load. I prefer CFE Blackout or AA1680. The plan is to put an adjustable port on it but why? It isn't loud at all and it cycles.
What I wanted was a more powerful semi auto to shoot nesting racoon mothers in buildings. Had 3 this spring, used a fmj .40 on one, took two rounds and still ran 30 feet I think I hit it both times. Used a suppressed 9mm hp on one, that was great but let a big hole in the floorboards on a junk camper. The suppressed .22 long rifle didn't do a good job, 5 rounds and still took too long to die.
I don't think I will have problems with the .221, I'm hoping they will be dead before they know it.

Sweet, I always thought the .221 fireball would make a great heavy bullet rifle (75gr+) in the AR.

I guess I could try something heavier, I don't remember how heavy the published load data goes. I think some data goes up to 62 grain or so.

My long barrel kit has shipped, it will be a rifle with a long barrel. Over 20" if I remember right. The faster twist on the pistol doesn't seem to hurt the accuracy of the Fireball. It will be a long outfit with the can on the muzzle! Paul

Sweet!
I've done two in the past for fast twist heavy bullets, only because std .223 they get shoved way into the case. One was a 7mm Fireball I used 7tcu dies on. Lets you use heavier bullets in the 2.25" oal AR platforms. Std TCU rounds in the AR need short bullets to fit in the magazine. Like may wildcats for the AR, "what's the point" as you don't pick up any performance, mainly for Subsonic work.

I just finished the AR 221 Rifle, Long barrel. Approximately 22 inches, the recoil is so light you'd think it was a 22LongRifle. Of course it has to run suppressed, it does.
