In the past I've had very good luck with the 7.62 tok rounds loaded hot with 110gr and heavier bullets. Some of my favorites were the 150gr and 168gr Serria's. I found they were all actually very accurate and decided to build a special side charging upper for this round so I could test the accuarcy without the gas system being involved. My favorite DI upper is a special mini-whisper setup I had built about 10 of 12 years ago. I won't abandon it but being gas operaated it will throw the cartridges a few feet and when they land in the grass they become almost invisible. This would probably make a great suppressed rifle and will shoot the very heavy bullets used by the 300 Blackout rifles but with a smaller cartridge. I don't have a fast twist barrel to test with, only a 1:10 do my maximum bullet weights are limited to about 200gr and it will shoot that weight just fine.
I've done the same type of manual upper for shooting very reduced loads in .223 cartridges using 6.0gr to 10.0gr of Unique powder. The very light powder charge will not operate a gas system and is the reason for the manual operation. I was surprised that the light loaded .223 rounds with 30gr to 40gr bullets did actually very well in a 1:7 twist barrel and planned to try them in slower twists to see if they do even better but time has not allowed that yet. I've tried cast bullets in the .223 light loaded cartridges but have not had good results. The best I've done is 2" at 50 yards although that was with 10 to 15 rounds in the same target.
I'd like to get pictures of the Manual rifles and some pictures of some targets but again time is not on my side. I was planning on going to the range in a couple of weeks but my Granddaughter is graduating from College and I'm not going to miss that for anything. I do have a picture of some targets I did some time back with the light loaded .223 but I'm not sure you can read the load notes on each target. They are all shot at 50 yards since these were to originally be replacement type rounds for the 22 magnum which is really hard to find here.
The 4 shots in the center target were done with 6.0gr of Unique and 40gr V-max bullets through the 1:7 twist barrel. You will notice that the groups open up on the other targets and it may be because the powder charge increased from 6.7gr just to the left of the center target to 9.0gr and a 30gr barnes bullets at the top right.
Also -- this post was done as a filler since nothing has been updated here in a really long time. Sorry for the lack of pictures of the rifles.
