I am going to load up some subs for my 7.62 Tok AR/M16 starting with some 147 grain .308 bullets I already had. What OAL have you all found to work well? I was going to order a few 5.45X39 AR mags so I can load longer than the PP mags can hold. I have a chrono and some starting powders and charge weights to work from. Any guidance would be appreciated.

I was running my 147's at around 1.75" oal. If you can figure out where your throat is and calc what oal would be, that's where I would start. Back off in .01" increments and see what works best. Good Luck

Oh, never thought of that. Custom load to my chamber. Thanks for the starting basic length. I will see if I can figure out a way to measure and go from there.

Thanks for the link, nice write up. I usually do it Dad's way: 1. Load up a long dummy round with a soft cast bullet. 2. Close the bolt. 3. Measure where the rifling is.

Was working on a customer's gun the other day and tested some Tok reloads with bulk 147gr FMJ's. Started off at 1.75" oal and got 1" groups at 50 yds. Backed off on the seating die, a bit too much, and groups went to a clover leaf. (using a red dot) I did not measure OAL, but used the FA to close the bolt. Will do some more testing to see if this is repeatable. I don't use the 147's a lot or have a habit of jamming the rifling but..... you can't argue with success!
