Greetings Race fans, It sure is nice being back at the shop. A big run of emails this evening so it cut into my update time. Made another mod on the new M1 Carbine set up. The mag release is working and the BHO is working, manually. I've got a new barrel finished up so will get it cleaned and set up in an upper. Working on getting the lower together and the trigger was crap so I did a quick manual job on it. I stoned it up and then hit it with the dremel tool and rouge Yep, that's a big knarf in the face of the hammer..... I keep saying I'll set up a jig with a diamond wheel on the surface grinder...... Its better, so now to get the upper together and do some testing with the 30 Carbine. Oh, the 22 TCM worked much better with the last mod also...

Not much progress today on this. I did do some trimming, fitting, and updated my drawings. I've got barrel cleaned up and ready for a the gas block (which I am waiting for...) I'm ready to light this candle!

Well, no brown santa today either so still waiting on my batch of gas blocks for the 30Carbine build. What I have done in the mean time is get a few sub assemblies of the mags done and worked on the dwg for the 22 TCM modification. I do have dwgs done for our adjustable gas blocks so it wouldn't take much (yea right....) to get them set up on the machine. I did the math the other day and we could probably have them available for $35. Not bad for an adjustable block. I'll see what the next week brings as far as time available. But, tomorrow I have to get this thing tested so I can move fwd!

Got the 30 Carbine AR set up done this morning and the new gas blocks work ok. Need to get some new tooling to really dial it in but we'll see what happens. Tested the new mag set up and the BHO works and the rounds chamber. I set up this barrel with the same set up I normally use and I had two rounds that didn't quite want to chamber and most reloads would not cycle the action. The 110gr HP cycled fine. Of course, my dies are down south..... so we'll call this a good test and bring them back next week for more testing and refinement for the gas blocks and the mag set up. I tell ya, the BHO is a nice feature.

Loaded up the new mag set up with my can of reloads and everything worked except the BCG was not travelling back far enough to lock back. The loads were a bit light so I'll try and load up some for for testing if my schedule allows, got a bit of a detour added in so have to work around that. Bottom line is we are moving forward with the new mag set up.

Made a couple of mods on the 30 carbine set up and opened up the gas port a bit to .1015" and got 100% cycling and locking back with my Light/Light set up. The std carbine buffer and spring still would not lock back. Typically I would go large on the port and put an adjustable block on it but this is good info. I don't have the chrono set up so I don't know what this factory steel cased ammo is doing, but my last .089 port had plenty of gas, but my notes don't mention what buffer/spring I was using. Good new is that the mag feeds and the BHO works.

We are working on a new set of followers for the M1 / 22 TCM mag set up. I would like to change the feed ramp set up, so that is on the operating table. There is just too much difference between the M1 and TCM stock lengths to do a universal, so I'm going to set up two sizes and see what happens. I rough cut some parts last night and hope to finish up with them today. At some point I need to load up a bunch of 30 Carbine and 22 TCM loads. Stay tuned.....

Test fired the new 22 TCM "Carbine Style" mag set up. For one, it looks cool as hell, but maybe that's just a fab guy thing when you put something together and it looks like you planned! Function was about 50%. My first mule was set up with a Pps-43 follower and spring, but I would have to modify it for the BHO. For the 2nd mule I made a custom follower, which by the way, is cool as hell, and used a Pps-43 spring. The rounds don't sit quite right yet and I need to widen up the follower "cartridge" to shove the first case to the side of the mag more. The feed ramps need some more work as Mule1 had nose up jams and Mule2 is a bit low, but fed rounds much better. My loads were 10gr of 2400 and 40gr spritzer but sure didn't sound like the 45,000 psi, pop, pop, pop, which ejected the rounds but wouldn't cycle the bolt back far enough to pick up another round or lock back the bolt. I think it will work tho..... Time to do some reloading.....

Well the last 2 months have flown by and no 30 Carbine rounds loaded. Made up two more M1 set ups and trying to get some more testing in. Good news is the 357 AMAG cycled through the few rounds I put through it.

Tim, Do you modify the AR bolt face for the smaller M1 Carbine rim or is it close enough to not bother?

No, I don't do any mods at this point as long as extractor is in good shape.

Greetings ALL, On the road again but have good news to report that our new 30 M1 Carbine mag set up works pretty good. The Bolt Hold Open is a great addition and the mag release set up is natural AR. We are working on making some more sets made up and finalizing set ups and materials. Once that is done we will work on pricing, but it is fair to say its going to be significantly less than the Original M1 Carbine adapter set up. How about that? Better product for less money!
