Tweaking the gas systems on the 10 and 16 BLK brls. I think my focus is going to lean towards the pistol system with an ajustable block. The reason for a 1:8 brl is the super heavy loads - that means subsonic. There is about a 3 1/2" difference in port location between the Pistol and Carbine. That is a bunch on a 10" brl going subsonic with a (realatively) faster powder. For the masses it is going to come down to factory loads. There might be some shorter than carbine systems out there, but tooling up, even for a gas tube and profile change is going to cost somebody. So again, it all comes down to compromise and choice, sub or super?

Man I need more info on this , Friend of mine has a 300/221 in 1:8 dont know the gas system length yet and I have a nice Pac-Nor 1:8 blank ( 34" so I have enough for a couple barrels ) Sitting here. One of them is going to be a pistol gassed Tok likely 10" ( have a pistol lower and a hankering for a SBR and a supressor ) and then I have some left over. Playing with doing a Black so my buddy and I can share Data, bulk components etc ...... but am also thinking on Doing something fast like a 7.62x40 or a covert ( 7.62x 39 grendalized) or a 30 HRT ( Herret Rimless tactical) Help me out Guys what do I wanna do ?

Talking with Dave Manson of Manson Reamers about the 30 HRT "optimized" for the AR, whatever the definition of optimized is. Doing some layout, the super heavy sub stuff is probably not the direction I am going, the Tok and whisper / BO already have that ability. So that leave the high end stuff.

10 years ago I never thought it would come to this , but .... I guess i will build a BO, even though it is so MAINSTREAM. I purchased a 7.62x25 reamer in 2000 after researching the 7.62 micro whisper ( the long bullet TOK) so I guess I have gone about full circle or something.

You could wait for the new one we are working on, but 1:8 is not recommended....

I love shooting the 7.62X25 with heavy bullets although I only have a 1:10 twist so I don't go over 168gr match bullets. I can imagine that with the barrel twist being something like 1:8 you could duplicate the subsonic speed with heavy 220gr bullets that the 300BLK gets. My 7.62X25 carbine is very accurate and my favorite bullets are those in the 110gr weight and I can get 2000fps out of them.

I had to throat the Tokarev to get it to feed the 240 SMK's and the NOE 247, even tho it is a bore rider. Same think with the Lee 180 because of the 1R nose on it. The new Lee 230 should feed like a champ and duplicate the 300 Blackout performance perfectly.

Tim, This should be our little secret -- don't go telling the 300BLK guys you can do the same thing with a little pistol cartridge. Below is a picture of some of my favorite loads. the bullet in front is a 110gr and the moly bullets in the back are 168gr. I actually use the Starline 30 Mauser brass and I believe the 30 Mauser case was used in the mini-whisper so I've been calling these mini-blackouts

Got two 300 Black Out 1:8 barrels done last week. One 16" and one 10". Got to test them this weekend along with some load development. I had cast up some the the new Lee TL 230 5R cast boolits and wanted to give them a try. They didn't cast up the greatest but I tumble lubed them and gave them a try. I tested both sized and un-sized boolits. The sized boolits only showed "sizing" at the lower band. Like I said, once I got them into some good light, the cast job wasn't the greatest so I didn't expect good results from them. I picked the ones with the best base for testing. The 16" was first and three shots had two touching and a flier 2" away. I started with 8.8 gr of Lil Gun and got 1145 avg fps. Dropped all the way to 7.8 gr LG to get 1020 avg fps. Group sizes were in the 2-3" range but like I said, the castings were not good at all so don't take this as a knock on the boolits, blame the caster. I Cleaned things up again and loaded up some 240 SMK's with the same load. Like I said, I'm running out of scopes so I had my Burris Red Dot on for testing. That's a bit better! Next up was the 10" with the same load: Maybe I should run pistols all the time...... Both uppers ran pistol length gas systems with the same port. All the rounds cycled and fed 100%. GW, your barrels are on the way! QL shows case fill at 59%, but only because the bullets are seated so dang deep. Obviously they work, but the Tok case does the same thing. I ran these rounds through a stock .223 mag with a green follower. The 7.62x39 mag held the nose better, but the base was too wide for the smaller dia case and the rounds moved around a bit. I was going to try a 6.8 mag, but the stock one worked ok. I did not do any high velocity stuff so GW can report back on that. Happy shooting
