Got the 1:8 twist blanks in and have orders for uppers. Will run a couple barrels and see what the field results are.

Definately share your findings, I have a 28" 5 groove 1:8 blank sitting here waiting for me to do something with it as well. I am guessing top end velocities will be down, pressure will be up and Sub sonic heavy bullet performance will be Really impressive!

Been busy with our machine build so going to try and get the 1:8's prepped today for turning. Very interested in seeing what all these super heavy loads will do. Update: Looking at my throating options with the long bullets and also gas location. I know the reloads will run with a pistol system, but some guys want to run surplus also. We'll see. Getting ready to cut them after lunch.
Barrels prepped and started profiling.

Had to order a new threading insert last week for the big machine. As soon as it gets here we'll cut the 1:8 brls. Upper receivers are on back order and should be here next week.

Phase II complete ! Sun is shining, not snowing, and some 180+ projectiles on the bench. 1:8 twist 16" ss brl. Put on the new UTG Quad rail free float handguad on to see how it holds up. Now lets see what those baubles will do......

Phase III Cav Arms stock, Burris Scope, UTG quad rails and Bi-Pod (that's Big Brother in back ) 110gr SP 1250 fps; 180gr SPBT 1040 fps, 177gr VLD 1080 fps, 174gr VLD 1080 fps, 147gr SHP 1100 fps. All loads except 110 using 7.2gr of Lil Gun. Brass was fired Starline. Typical groups at 50 yds; 3 & 2 these were the 180's. OAL ranged from 1.77 with the 180's to 1.85 with the VLD's. Spread on 5 shot groups were all at least 40 fps. The 1:8 twist helped the VLD's and SHP's that I made as these were no longer key holed. Fired a total of 40 rounds cleaning every 5 shots after the initial 5. Has some potential and definitely helped out on the long stuff. Didn't have any 220 SMK's to try.... Gas system is our standard Tok set up. The 110's have 7-10 gr of Unique, I don't remember, but they did not cycle completely all the time. Out of the 40 rounds fired, I had two that did not lock the bolt back. The recoil difference could be felt as well as the differences in muzzle blast volume. Definitely on the edge of sub sonic as some "cracked" and others didn't. I also did not shoot any surplus stuff at all. This was our first try with the UTG Quad Rail free float hand guards. As a matter of fact, this is the first set of quad rails I have ever put on an upper. It's either been a FF tube or the std 2pc & FSB. And the main reason for me has been cost. I could not justify the expense. The UTG is about $70 and with the rubber covers it is a bit large for me, but with the covers off I like it a lot better. Very easy to grip with gloves on and their mini Bi Pod fits right on. Plus, it works with our gas blocks! This will definitely be an option with our uppers from now on. Initial observations: The Tok sub loads show some potential, but nowhere near what the initial firings were with the 250SS and the 6PPC, so I am dissapointed after shooting those two. But..... I would not consider the Tokarev case the best design for accuarcy, there is very little neck to work with and the heavy bullets are way too deep. I have not throated the 1:8 brl and will take a look at this first. Case prep and reloading practices definately need to be improved. I would put this in the catagory of one size fits all right now, Jack of all trades, master of none. Next step is to do some good case prep, make a new bullet seater for my Lee dies, and get some 200+ projectiles. And as they say, To be continued............ Now lets go over to Hey Tim and have some fun!

Phase IV Made a new brass seater. Actually a 2-4-1. VLD on one end and ball on other. Added an air port on the seater adjuster and drilled all the way through the seater because I was getting a slight vacuum in the system. New seater is 1/2" shorter and will check it out after I prep up some brass. Going to throat the 2nd brl a bit and see what happens.

New seater is too short for the 86gr stuff, will have to use the stock one for that. Fits the 180's and VLD's much better. Have not throated brl2 yet. Prepped some brass, sized cleaned trimmed chamfered. Not much can be done w/the short neck so I think the throat is going to play a big part. Checked neck tension of fired cases and was surprised it was real good. 180's fit back in just right (according to Bro ). Tested on the Wisp cases (9mm Mag necked down) and they were tight. Had a thought of making a longer neck Wisp and chambering a 1:8 for that, we'll see.....

Mine is a MKII. They had a no brainer special a few years ago. Something like $129 with a LPK and a $30 lifetime replacement cost.
