Hey Sniper, welcome back! Yes, I have reamer and dies. Let me check in Encore specs and see what I can put together. I've thought about doing contender stuff but never got started on it other than getting the lugs drawn up. Sounds like a great project!

Thanks...I have a 25-06 in a rifle but l like to hunt with a pistol. l have a 270 in a 15" pistol but I'm not a fan of the 270. Yes it is a flat shooter but it's not the same as a 25 cal.. the case is long and the flame that comes out is wasted powder and power. a shorter and fatter case burns faster in the shorter barrels and give you more usable power. Please let me know what you find out... You can Email me at sniper1x@hotmail.com

Tim, I was wondering who the manufacturer of the bolt was that you use for the 250SS and 257ARS. I have read in some threads about bolt failure with the 7.62X39 rim sized bolts in the AR platform and you seem to be doing OK.

Well, seeing how you asked......... The bolts I use in the 257 ARS, 250SS, and our 6PPC's came from AR15 Performance. They are their "super bolts" with a stronger lug design. However, when I went to place my last order, they don't have the 7.62x39 bolts on their website, only 5.56 and 6.8, so I shot them an email. Will let you know the reply. And, I don't have 1,000's of rounds on them either......

Email back from AR15 Performance. They are busy with 6.8 stuff but will switch a line over to run 7.62x39 bolts for a set up fee and a 100 pc min qty order. I assumed it would have been a simple bolt face machine program change, but the main issue is the extractor and fitting the bolt to them which takes all the set up time. Sounds reasonable to me. So, Group Buy? 257 ARS or 35 ARem, barrel, matching bolt, and dies: $500

Tim, Thanks for the info. I had thought about building some type of rifle using the 7.62X39 brass but I kept seeing references to bolt problems and have held off.

Psssst, don't tell anyone....... Alexander Arms has 2 versions of the x39 bolts on their website....... Model1Sales also has x39 bolts for their "6.5 Sporter" both rated for the 52ksi Grendel pressures

Thanks Tim. Guess I need to get serious about that project. By the way what mags seem to work well with the 7.62X39 brass?

I use 7.62x39 mags for the 35 ARem and 6.5 mags for the 257 ARS

I talked with Lee the other day and they are looking to see if they still have the die data to make dies. If not, I might try Hornady as they also make custom dies. Have another blank profiled and ready for chambering. Was going to wait until the new chamber lathe comes in (Merry Christmas boys!) but have a big project in the way and need to get it out first. The latest barrel will be an 18" version and it will be interesting to see what the velocity difference will be between it and the 20". I'm going to start with a rifle length gas system like the 20".
