I ran across a "pre production" order offering for a slip in (internal) adapter for standard 5.56 mags (aluminum or plastic) to hold and feed 9mm (9 X 19) and perhaps others. Anybody else heard about this "wrinkle"? (no pictures, just a vague description provided) offered at around $25.00 each.
Sounds to me like an injection molded skeleton to slip fit into a 30 round mag, that holds a spring and follower designed to feed calibers shorter/smaller than 5.56. Didn't mention a BHO, I know we all want that feature, or any capacities.
Might be a "caliber specific" problem solver for those of us that like pistol cartridges in our AR's
Personally, I'm a bit gunshy of a "pre production" order offering, sounds like a pig in a poke kinda deal, designed to generate free capital with no actual product ever shipped. I hope I'm wrong.
Post up if you've seen it too.

Looks pretty cool to me. Cheaper than my mags at $75 too! Hope they work great
It's funny you should say that -- I felt the same about the money involved in buying a magwell conversion for Colt mags or Glock mags -- they can be expensive. The Colt type mags like Metal Form can be found cheap at times. I already have a 30 round Gen 2 Pmag that I can use for the insert -- I think the Pmag was like $14 plus the cost of the insert still does not amount to much if you're a plinker/target shooter that would normally only need 4 or 5 of the Colt or Glock mag setup. The best part is no magwell adapter needed so a change back to .223 is simple. I will have to admit that I'm a bit forgetful and would need to mark the Pmag with the adapter in a way that I would know it's for 9mm only. I've had to do that for some other oddball rounds I shoot in the AR and it's important for a brainless guy like me so I don't get the special mags mixed up -- could ruin a good day at the range.

Looks like they have a pretty nice design. Using the guides inside the mag spring allows them to use stock ar springs it looks like. Also the PMag feed lips are more robust than the mag bodies I was using. Same concept, better mag body. Good for them, I hope it works great, we need low priced stuff!
Any chance you could modify there magazine to work with TCM rounds? That would be awesome and shouldn't infringe on any patents. We would just have to purchase their magazine inserts and send them to you for modification. I volunteer to send three for you to experiment on if you have the time!
I don't know if they will or not. Someone is going to try it I guarantee..... It looked like their "ramp/filler" system is going to be the key if it can be expanded enough for the TCM round and still work with the guide rods. Are they shipping them yet?
Do they have Bolt Hold Open? If you want to send me a couple I could tell pretty quick if they will be able to be modified. Have you tried them on a 9mm? Blow back parts will all have to go or be modified....
They do have a bolt hold open and they also have a built in ejector which looks pretty sturdy even though it is made out of plastic. I also have a set for the Guard 9mm and they come without the ejector. By the way, I just assumed we are talking about the magazine inserts made by Mean Arms.
I just looked them over thoroughly and pretty sure they would have to be totally redesigned to support a longer cartridge.

What about the 5.7x28 lower for the Guard series? I saw one a LGS and looks pretty doable. I'm not going to invest $$$$$ to find out.... Does CMMG offer bolts and lowers? I looked on their website and it looked like they had BCG's. Do they take a special barrel extension? H
I've heard of but have not seen the 5.7x28 Guard lower. From their site it looks like the lower takes FNH style magazines but the ones CMMG sells with their SBR and Pistol are made by "Pro Mag". I've not heard good things about Pro Mag magazines but maybe their 5.7x28 mags actually work.
CMMG does not seem to carry bolts, barrels or lowers in 5.7x28 for separate purchase. Bolt barrel combos (not separate) and separate lowers and uppers are available for the 9mm and 45 versions.
I don't know about the 5.7x28 barrel extension but the extensions used on the 9mm and 45 ACP guards start life as a normal extension (Not M4). There is a feed ramp beveled into the extension but that would be easy to duplicate.
I had a custom 45 ACP barrel built for the Guard and the gunsmith used an M4 extension with the ramp beveled in and it seems to work just as well as factory.
