Most of the Ar-15's that shoot the 5.7X28 use a blowback design and have the 50 round magazine on top. The magazine being on top limits the use of a scope so I did something a little different. The rifle pictured below is a DI operated setup and uses the 20 round pistol magazines. I can shoot commercial 5.7X28 ammo or reload my own. The reloads are a heck of a lot cheaper than the commercial stuff but it's nice to just be able to buy a box of ammo and go shooting. The rifle is very accurate and makes a good varmint rifle. I've had the rifle for a number of years and I guess since it does not use the 50 round mags the idea of the rifle never got very popular. The gas block out front is a dummy to hold the handguard cap and the real gas block is inside in the pistol length gas system position. The SS barrel is 18" long.
