Greywolf worked on these for a while and I made a couple of mock rounds but nothing serious. I cut some more 5.56 brass today while I still have the loading bench set up in the shop and will see how they expand. Only issue may be shoulder life because the 357Max is 1.6" long which is past the 1.4" shoulder mark on the 5.56. We'll try a couple, could be another stupid simple conversion and a great deer round.

Would make a nice little dear rifle. What would the feeding issues be with available .357 bullets? Did you make an expander of some type to open the neck?

I did a few a while back and they looked funky. I know GW said he found the "secret" to doing it. I cut some more brass and will swage them open when I get a chance. Will be home the end of the month, but have a pretty full plate.

Working on brass prep today. If things go well, will chamber a barrel and see what's what...

My mess of brass is still sitting in the "357 pile" so it one of those "I know it will work" projects...... I mean, the 9mm mag worked just fine.

Ordered a blank today for the .357 rimless project. Twist is 1:20 so we'll see how case forming goes in the next few days and see if we do a Magnum or Maximum.

Got my blank in yesterday but have not started anything yet. Will get to it after this batch of work is done and I can work on getting some 357 maximum rimless brass formed.

After a lengthy multi step process, here is some 357 MaxR ready for final trimming to 1.6" These all came out about 1.710 - 1.715 from once fired assorted brass. The issue now is going to find a mag wide enough for the double stack straight wall case and see how an autoloader likes chamber such a round. The bullet is a 147gr FMJ in the case next to the 30 Carbine Quick Load shows a 158 FP with 100% case capacity of 25.5gr of Lil Gun will do 2300 fps from a 16" barrel at 55ksi pressure. Might have to jump up to the heavy Silhouette bullets to make sure they stay together. I guess this means I have to do the barrel now.....

Note to self: The std 357Max trim cutter cuts 223 brass .070" short.....

Tim, Did you straighten the taper out of the .223 case and if so how did you do it? I was wondering if the neck work could be done and the cases fire-formed straight. Could you explain what you had to do to the cases as shown in the picture. I can't tell if you just had to turn the outside of the case neck area or did you have to ream the inside? This is starting to look very interesting.

That is a raw case with formed necks only - pre fire forming. I use a 4 step process with about 20% attrition due to spilt necks. These are the next barrels to go on the lathe, 357 Mag Rimless (AMag) 357 Max Rimless (Amax) think hornady will get mad?
