I'll chime in with specs after I finish testing, hopefully later today ;D The block inthe pic is a steel version that we had some stock for. Basically "billet" made.
OK, tested upper assembly and things went pretty good, but weather sucked. Will try and do some more in the next day or so because I want to check on a few things. We have drawings in the system and a customer that wants stainless blocks. We are also going to test some aluminum blocks.

We don't make blocks this style any more, way too expensive. We have updated to an easier method and lower cost material to keep our costs down.

I'll try and get some pics up of our current gas blocks. I am testing some stainless ones today. They are the same style as we currently use on our uppers but made from 304 stainless. We tried some stainless gas tubes but the temper was way too soft. We use a clamp on style, like above, but with a simpler (less expensive) profile. It would be much easier to just drill and tap a couple set screws through the bottom into the barrel and we might end up doing that as a cost measure, but right now I am hung up on the extra grip and seal of the clamp style. As a side note, we did just build an upper that used a standard Low Profile gas block. I was concerned about making the gas tube, but we did it, so for those of you with std blocks, they will work.

How hard is it to install a barrel/gas system from heavy metal? Is it just like a standard AR? Also a little off topic.... I was reading this topic.. Towards the bottom of the first page they start talking about breaking cam pins,extractors/pins. It looks like Ron has the problem figured out. Seems like its the shape of the extractor he was using. So my question..... What bolts/extractors are you running? Model 1 5.45? Thanks www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=15&t=497830

Hi jh, I build with Heavy Metal parts all the time and it is very straight forward. If you are familiar with assembling AR's then it should not be an issue as far as the barrel and gas block go. Torque the barrel down, line up the gas block, and tighten it down. The major issue we have had is the surplus ammo variation in size. As far as broken extractors and cam pins, I can not comment on that as I have not broken any and none of my customers have called and said they have broken parts. But I am NOT shooting 1k+ rounds a week either. I use 5.56 bolts and extractors and modify them for the Tokarev. If you have any specific questions you can email me at getit@heavymetalco.com
