As you can see, I'm kinda of a 1911 fan.
And that's not showing the ones at the shop. Besides a Contender and a trusty Ruger Blackhawk they are the only pistols I had for years. Like others, I think they are great guns, plus the fact Dad was a Camp Perry shooter and that's what I grew up seeing is him and his custom 45. When the Glock came on the scene I had zero interest in them, I just stuck with the 1911. One issue tho, is that I'm not the largest guy on the block. The 1911 is actually a shade too big for my hands. Without an extended mag release and slide stop I have to reposition my grip to get to them but, that never stopped me. Life was good and the 45's kept me happy. I had no interest in a double action anything, let alone a "glock". To make a long story short, a friend had a Glock 40 with a slick plastic holster. The rig was so light and compact I couldn't believe it. Lo and behold there was a 9mm Glock 19 that crossed my path not too long after that. I played around with it a bit but it didn't hold a candle to the 1911's and the Glock spent most its life on the shelf. Fast forward a few years and the move to South Carolina with all the traveling, one of my 45's got left behind. Seeing as 19 out of the 21 poisonous snakes live in South Carolina, I don't go out with out a pistol. With all the brush hogging and tree cutting whatever I carry takes some abuse. That's when I decided to really give the Glock a fair shake.
The Glock is a model 19 9mm and the 1911 is an Auto Ordnance Commander that I got to practice gunsmithing on. What follows next is my biased opinion on a 1911 guy going Glock....
