Finally did it and got a "real" M1 Carbine. Nothing exotic, actually an old clone/surplus parts model out of California as best as I can tell. Paid more than I wanted but it was the family of one of my Bro's friends who passed and got one real GI mag with it. I never wanted any of the "collector" models, just an old Universal or something to play around with and not have to worry about destroying any value. It has a nice blond stock with metal heat shield so it looks good and is in excellent condition. Loaded up some Sierra 110gr HP over a compressed charge of 14.5gr of H110 and function is perfect. The 110 HP's are a bit longer than I like so will look into the Speer Gold Dot and Harnady FTX. Only back for a couple of days so chrono work will have to wait but estimating right at 2000 fps. I see Hornady has some new Critical Defense ammo out for the M1 Carbine and that has created some well deserved interest in this Legacy round. Using their FTX bullets at 2000 fps will definitely get some attention. Their website list it as Suspended right now for some reason..... anyway, good stuff. Check one off the Bucket List

Got the carbine out today and fired off some 110gr hp loads that chrono'd out at 1950 fps. The carbine packs a different punch than the other rounds fired off today. Its going to be interesting to run this thing up against the 75 gr 22 Reed Express.

Here it is, my spare parts carbine. The thing is handy and fun to shoot. Loaded with 110gr HP it definitely outguns the 9mm and surplus Tokarev. Will have to look through my notes with the Tok and see how close it gets with 110 gr Hp as the carbine does 1900 with ease. The Tok Magnum also hit those numbers + I think I already checked to see if I could get the Hornady 180 SST's in there and it doesn't, but will check again. Will also check the Lee 230 5R Blackout boolits. Definitely will have to super deep seat them.....

I can see where this thing fit into the war machine, the Garand, M14, 45 acp, quite a gap. Read an article years ago before the 9mm vs 45 debate began. The goal was finding the best way to get hits on target in battle situations. One of the tests was to run 25 yards and engage the target. The winner? M1 Carbine. I don't think it was a military test, I think it was a police or FBI test. Anyway, the M1 Carbine is a handy, accurate weapon. It will be fun to do a side by side with our AR version.

Got out to the range today and ran some of the bulk rounds through the Carbine. Using Bulk 110gr JRN bullets over 12 gr of 2400 we got 1840 fps out of the M1. Did not compare with the AR yet, will have to wait a few weeks until I get another set up done. The M1 is a light and compact unit and I see its appeal. Its a little difficult for me to really shoot well because of my busted arm, but we always make do. The sights don't work well for me, but my eyes aren't what they used to be either. But the sun was out and and the temperature was up so a good day all around.

Got the AR M1 out today and ran the same 2400 powder loads. Chrono showed 1809 fps avg which was about 30 fps slower than the M1 Carbine. Handling was typical AR and fit well. Recoil was about the same and the iron sights were very similar to the Carbine altho the AR front site works much better than the ramped Carbine front site.

Out of ammo so have a lot of reloading to do. Supposed to rain next couple of days so we'll see how much we can get in. Been tweaking on the carbine set up in the AR as this is a great little round with almost no recoil. A compensator would be interesting to try. Once in a while getting some nose up jams so doing a lot of testing and tweaking to see what the root cause is. After today I am leaning towards the weird feed lips on the magazines but it is prevalent to the right side of the mag which shares some of the issues with the Tok mag adapters when I first got them running. We'll get some ammo loaded and dig more into this.

Ran through a few mags this weekend shaking the system out some more. Got a few nose up jams, but only from the right side of the mag. Also had some mag spring / follower issues that need to be addressed. Still a fun round.

take a look at 3n38. I had good luck with that and the Tok....some of the better velocities and is cleaner.

Have done most of this posting in the mag adapter page, but put together a 10" pistol a while back and finally got it together. Had to tweak on barrel extension a bit and may need to adjust gas port (pistol location) but its a nice addition to the other pistol uppers we have.

This is another upper that has been sitting and needs to get worked out again. With our new mag set ups and the fact I burned up my supply of 30 Carbine ammo two weeks ago, we'll get the AR back in action and see how it goes.

Got our latest M1 Carbine mag set up done, so this upper will head back to the range with me for a workout.

Late comer to this post? Found several things interesting, TOK MAG? & the velocities of a 10" barreled 30 Carbine in an AR pistol/SBR upper? Are there more posts on these topics? I am getting ready to do a TOK upper in a couple of months, but found all the factory stuff so far S&B, Prvi (so far) had small bullets .3055 or .306, so was confused on the barrel size to buy, thought about buying a palma style tight bore .298 x 306.5 tube and using the leftover length and find someone to make me some REAL TOK pistol barrels too? Then when I reload it would cause issue though?
