Built this out of spare parts, unfortunately have not had a time to test fire it, had to go out of town. Lower is one of the new MAG Tactical ultra light receivers, which does weigh less than a standard aluminum but more than a polymer... main difference is that it takes longer FCG pins, probably proprietary. Wound up replacing the standard mag release with one of those California bullet buttons, so the adapter could not be accidentally removed. The tube on it originally was for a full length tube for a fixed stock, the threads were drilled out and then I did the paracord wrap turks head knots at the top and bottom and a nice spiral wrap around the rest. Later this year I'll do my paperwork and make it an SBR. I'm very happy with the quality of work which Tim at Heavy Metal does.

Seems like all kinds of nice parts on your pistol AR. I like those upper receivers because they seem to have extra metal for more strength and less flex. What type of ammo do you shoot -- commercial, hand loads or milsurp?

The upper is a nice DPMS Flattop Lo-Pro Upper Receiver. Some people hate on DPMS, I never had a problem with any of their parts... though I guess people hate on anything Pretty much everything there was going to be used for various other projects, but just happened to frankenstein together for this one. Unfortunately haven't shot it yet, had to go out of town for some family stuff. I have a can of some kind of milsurp at the house which will be used up in due time, probably corrosive. I'll get some non-corrosive commercial and test it out with a suppressor later on. Don't have the dies to do reloading, we have a nice handloader at the shop though, so I'll get to it eventually. I've gotta do some reloads for the J&G 7.62x25 Tokarev Barrel kit I got for a 1911 9mm Super. So many projects... so little .. uh .. ooh another project!

"sitting on the bench......" Sounds like the story of my life! I've got one of those GSG-5's which I may have taken it apart 2 years ago, I think I still have all the parts. Hell... What fun are firearms if you can't take them apart and get distracted by 10 other perfectly fine guns you took apart to "do somethin' with".
